Merry L. Deen (Axtell)

Nancy and I actually met in our 7th grade Sunday school class and we became fast friends.  We hadn't gone to elementry school together, because I lived closer "in" Bothell, just above the Catholic Church, and Nancy lived in N. Bothell (out past Thrashers Corner) we used to sneak her older brother's car and take short drives up their dead end road (it was only a mile or so, but we thought we were being pretty daring for Jr highers) so by the time we got to BHS we were looking for more exciting things to do; but since we both had older family members watching over us all the time, it was pretty hard for us to get away with very much.  We did get caught for sneaking the car out, but that was after we were in high school and it was the last time we got to do it.  I remember our parents actually got together (and they didn't even know each other) and we both got restriction for 3 weeks; and after that they talked to each other all the time when we were making plans to do something.

I really was lost for a while after that horrific MVA, two days after christmas in 1965.  Nancy had been babysitting and the women she had been working for was taking Nancy home (she also had the two children with them) she lost control of her car.  The driver and 5 yo had minor to serious injuries; but the  8 yo died at the scene, while Nancy spent 1966 to 1972 severely brain damaged, in the Edmonds Nursing and Rehab Center.   I continued visiting her over the months and years; even took my oldest son with me a couple times when he was a baby and I must admit that my visits declined over time, to three or four times a year.    But she was my friend, and I still cared, so I continued to visit even if it wasn't as often.   I had gone on a 3 week vacation, and stopped to see her the week before I went.  I got a call about a week after I got back, that Nancy had passed.  I was glad that I had stopped and said Good-bye, before I left on vacation.  RIP BF
